Modero's response to allegations

From the press, we learn that Modero would be “complained” by the Support Center for Debt Mediation Services of the Brussels Capital Region and the Belgian Network for Poverty Reduction.

It is unknown to us whether and to which authority this “complaint” would have been filed. The content of this “complaint” and, in particular, the criminal offenses accused of us by these organizations are also unknown to us.

According to the press release, the complaint would relate to an alleged unlawful charge in MIVB recovery files of an administrative fee of 25 euros. This is false. Only if, for this administrative fee, there is a sentencing verdict currently, it will be collected

The press release also mentions an illegal charge in De Lijn recovery files of an administrative fee of 10 euros. This is also incorrect. This administrative fee is based on the Decision of the Flemish Government determining the travel conditions and the rules for enforcing them by the Flemish Transport Company De Lijn of September 16, 2022.

Finally, the press release mentions recovery files for the City of Mechelen. Modero is in the dark about what she is accused of in these files.

In November 2023, the above organizations also announced a “complaint” with the Investigating Judge at the Antwerp Court of First Instance, Mechelen division. However, Modero never became aware of this “complaint” nor received any invitation to make a statement.

The press release shows that these organizations - whose purpose is to protect and assist people in precarious financial circumstances - want to use Modero as the largest bailiff office in Belgium as an example for the sector. It is regrettable that this advocacy must take place via a defamatory media campaign.

We emphasize that Modero complies with all ethical and legal rules.

If we are notified of a possible mistake, we will check this immediately and rectify it if necessary.

Although we therefore have no knowledge of any actual complaint to date, Modero will in any event take the necessary action against these repeated false and defamatory allegations to limit further image damage.
